Oxford University Press continuously works to make its products accessible to as many people as possible.

To work towards that goal, we design our websites to meet the needs of all users. We try to make Oxford English Hub accessible to everyone, regardless of their accessibility needs.

We also aim to meet level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1). By doing this, we want to make sure that our users can take full advantage of the accessibility features of their device, web browser, operating system or assistive technology.

With some of our older content this is not always possible, but new content is created in accordance with the guidance.

How accessible is this website?

You can:

  • See the content on the website with good colour contrast.
  • Complete common tasks in Oxford English Hub by keyboard.
  • Increase the browser zoom setting up to 200% without needing to scroll horizontally.
  • Use the website on different sized devices.
  • Use your screen reader to hear image descriptions.
  • Watch video and listen to audio at different speeds.
  • Read user-friendly error and confirmation messages in simple language.

Some parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example, you cannot:

  • Access some types of content from Oxford English Hub with a screen reader.
  • Reflow the content in some e-books.
  • Access alternative forms of content for some audio-visual material and images
  • Complete all activities using a keyboard

Some content available via Oxford English Hub is not fully accessible. For example, some e-books were originally created as digital alternatives to our print coursebooks. The pages are images and are identical to the print so that most students can use both while taking advantage of the audio, video and interactive activities that are in the e-book. This image-based format means that we cannot add accessibility features such as reflowable text or screen reader access to these e-books.

We are working on creating different course material, including new e-book content, that is fully accessible.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

During 2025, we are focusing on improving the experience for onboarding, viewing progress and ease of navigation around Oxford English Hub by:

  • Simplifying the onboarding journey
  • Creating Help and Support guidance that meets level AA of WCAG 2.1
  • Improving keyboard navigation for the homepage
  • Ensuring that onscreen validation messaging when users type information into a form is clear and appropriate for screen readers

How to ask for accessible versions of our OUP e-books

We can provide an electronic file or grant permission for an alternate format to be created for students with different needs. This is only possible for Special Educational Needs departments of educational institutions and representative organisations that use our titles.

Please visit our disability resources page  to ask for accessible format e-books.

How we test this website

Our websites are regularly tested by independent accessibility specialists. They test websites on various operating systems and mobile devices. When they find issues, we plan a fix for those issues.

Accessibility is central to our development process. When we create a new feature or change and existing one, we make sure it’s accessible to all users.

We also work with our development partners to make sure they share our commitment to accessibility for all.
